TimeMap metadata is stored in a native file format with a .tmm file extension. There are some conventions that will ensure the smooth operation of all TimeMap software:

Where the dataset that the .tmm file refers to is on the local PC (rather than at a remote location), the .tmm file should be located in the same directory as that dataset. When secondary files relating to your dataset (thumbnail images, .html information pages, worldfiles and so on) are required by the Metadata Editor, it will search the same directory as the active .tmm file for that information.

Generally, there should be only one .tmm file per dataset, and by convention TimeMap metadata carries the same filename as the dataset but with a .tmm extension.

The .tmm metadata file format is XML and is readable and editable through ASCII viewers such as WordPad.
