What kind of Buddha image is that? Page 5.

The image on the left is another Ratanakosii piece, Buddha as both king, in his fine robes, and a monk, as shown by the alms bowl. (Not a begging bowl, please. People make merit by giving food to Buddhist monks, and a monk in return gives a blessing). On the right is a wooden Mon Buddha image. The Mon were an early civilisation in Burma and Thailand, and there are still many Mon people in both countries today. I once saw images similar to this being made on the porch of a temple on Ko Kred, a Mon potters' enclave on an island upriver from Bangkok. They were moulding them from a mixture of clay, incense and crushed flowers. Little rolled-up scrolls containing prayers were inserted into the cardinal body points. The image here has nails in the cardinal points- you can see the one in the forehead clearly.
